Galileo Can Drive Economic Diversification for Bonaire and Other Caribbean Islands

Haarlem, March, 2025 – At the request of the Special Envoy for Bonaire, Saba, and St. Eustatius, Innovate Today has conducted an in-depth analysis to assess the economic and educational potential of space technology for the Dutch Caribbean. The resulting advisory report explores how the establishment of a Galileo Sensor Station on Bonaire could serve as a catalyst for economic diversification, technological innovation, and regional development.

The report highlights that the Galileo Sensor Station presents a unique opportunity for the islands within the Kingdom of the Netherlands to position themselves as leaders in the region concerning space developments. By fostering startups, developing educational programs, enhancing disaster response capabilities, and creating an innovative space campus with a visitor center, Bonaire can unlock substantial economic and strategic benefits.

“This project is a game-changer for Bonaire and the region,” said Valerie Vallenduuk, spokesperson for Innovate Today. “With the right investment and strategic planning, the Galileo Sensor Station can drive sustainable economic growth, foster innovation, and strengthen resilience in the Caribbean.”

However, realizing this potential will require close cooperation between local and international governments, the European Union, the private sector, and global partners. The report underscores that through strategic collaboration, Bonaire can establish itself as a regional hub for space technology, unlocking new economic opportunities for the wider Caribbean.

The findings and recommendations from the report will serve as a foundation for further discussions and policy development. The Special Envoy will engage with key stakeholders to explore the next steps in implementing the proposed strategies.
